The FCP 11 release in November 2024 was a big one, and I was happy to be in the front row in a theater in the Developer Center across the road from Apple Park for its release.
Magnetic Mask is what many people have wanted for years — quick, effective rotoscoping on the timeline. No need for the prep and special shots that Scene Removal Mask requires; no green screen either.
Transcribe to Captions is very fast and quite accurate, giving on-timeline transcription in just a few seconds. If you want open captions (i.e. titles) and not just closed captions, you’ll need an app like captionAnimator, but closed captions are better for accessibility, so try to talk your clients into them if you can.
Spatial/Stereo 3D support is very welcome, allowing you to edit 3D clips and export for the Apple Vision Pro. Fingers crossed we get live 3D editing support soon.
Among the many smaller updates are new shortcuts to move clips up and down in the stack (⌥↑ and ⌥↓) and the ability to hide clips in the Browser — an automatic option when making sync clips or multicam clips.
